Road Not Taken

There is nothing to writing. All you do is sit down at a typewriter and bleed - Ernest Hemingway.

So yeah I'm gonna quit my study and grab new opportunities.

My father once told me that the decision made when I'm 15 until early 30s will affect my whole life.  A simple yes or no answer to any opportunities or relationships will take me flying or sinking, for I am the designer of my own catastrophe.

Nevertheless I am happy that my parents support me.  My mother simply pat my head and said there will be hard times for me but they will pass.  It is very difficult letting go of my thesis, and embarrassing, really.  I don't think I'm ready to face just anyone and tell them that "I quit" and laugh.  Not yet.  I need time.  This is not something I can just brush off with a nod or smile or some gestures.  Wow I never realized that I care about what people say, or scared of society...

Anyhow I've been thinking abut this for months actually.  Did I make a wrong turn somewhere to arrive at this point?  Is it a right thing to do? But life doesn't stop for anybody, and lashing about it won't make anything better.  Dwelling in this any longer also won't help me progress.

I am saddened, frustrated and irritated with my own decision, but I have to stand on my own and take charge of my life.  My future as of now sure starts slow.  Still, I want to believe that there ought to be a future that I can choose.  Right?

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again.  Then quit.  No use being a damn fool about it - W.C. Fields

It is good to have conviction and it is commendable to follow it through, but when it hinders you, isn't it good to try something new? - Sakata Gintoki

This is so much bitter than any heartbreak I've experienced.  They said heartbreak, but my whole body and mind hurts.  Okay gonna listen to Alana Grace now.  And Leona Lewis

  3. Sorry for the late comment! Well tell ya what it all depends on you. Find a way to 'transmute' your passion! (See what I did there?!) But seriously, if you enjoy doing something, then find a way to do the thing you enjoy and serve the world! First of course should try and master your craft- that means learning all you can about what you do, this process never stops even after a post-secondary or graduate education.

If you learned enough then first go work for somebody! Build up that resume. Then once you understand HOW your gonna serve people, then try and do it yourself if you want! (Start a business, become a freelancer in you profession.etc.)Three basic rules on being a contributing member of society and following your passion:

you gotta serve other people to receive compensation- even a leader serves his or her people/ underlings. Pay your taxes- obviously you gotta do that! Finally, find a way to market yourself so that people come for your service!

    Here's a quote for you:
You've got to learn your instrument. Then, you practice, practice, practice. And then, when you finally get up there on the bandstand, forget all that and just wail.”
    ―Charlie Parker

Take it as a metaphor. If you think that university or whatever your learning from has dealt it's share, then move on towards actually 'playing the instrument.' As in practicing or doing a job of sorts. We all need to understand how to serve people, so that we receive compensation in return! Once you start contributing then don't worry about the outcome, 'do or do not, there is no try.'

I'll also leave you with this thought: never forget the process of learning never ends. We continuously learn til we die, even in tiny ways we don't even think about!

    Good luck!

  4. Thanks for you thought! It is encouraging. I actually haven't gave up on pursuing my master degree. Maybe the timing now is not suitable but I definitely want to continuing my study later on. It's like you said, learning process ends when we die so, good luck for the both of us!
